Jaco Schilp is a media art curator, immersive video artist, event organizer, light designer, and historical iron maker and blacksmith. In 2016, he graduated from the Reinwardt Academie with a BA in Cultural Heritage, where he specialized in exhibition design, narrative spaces, intangible heritage, and archeological reconstructions. After completing his studies, Schilp began working with digital art, creating performative projected immersive spaces and organizing cultural projects.
As an artist, Schilp has developed numerous (digital) art installations and has performed as a live visual artist at events such as Boiler Room, Le Guess Who?, and the 3FM Awards.
He has been involved in large-scale projections on buildings including the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, the Arsenal Centre of Contemporary Arts in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, the Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle, the Cathedral of St Bavo in Haarlem, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
In addition to his artistic practice, Schilp is also one of the two founding members and curators of Uncloud, a foundation and platform for interdisciplinary art and experimental contemporary sound based in Utrecht, Netherlands. Through Uncloud, Schilp and his colleague Skander Jaïbi have organized events such as concerts, residencies, exhibitions, co-creating projects, educational programs, and master classes, and have worked to blend multiple genres
He is one of the Co-Founders of LiGHT-UP Collecitve. LiGHT-UP collective is an innovative group of artists and technologists transforming spaces and experiences through interactive projection art.
Member of No Es Una Galeria México. A independed galleria based in Mexico city, where local and international artis run their self organized gallery, use the space as their studio and organize events. The project is currently organized by Ricardo Santos.
In 2024 Schilp started a new collaboration with contemporary dancer and choreographer Alejandra Metztli. What resulted in an interdisciplinary audiovisual dance performance called Somnia.
He is the artist board member of Art Utrecht. a non-profit art organization aim to enhance Utrecht as a vibrant city by boosting the visibility of visual arts, fostering connections between artists, businesses, and institutions, and promoting visual arts on multiple level
From 2017 onwards he has been the resident light artist of Club WAS Utrecht. a pop up club that's located in an old warehouse with the club housed within the laundry-room of the enormous building. The music programming is focused solely on electronic music, with an emphasis on house, disco, electro and techno.
