Panorama Utrecht
Artist Selected
The Light sculpture Panorama Utrecht shows the city from a digital perspective. A panoramic view of small luminous points that make all the walls disappear.
Aerial scanners fly often over the Netherlands to collect billions of height map data points. The art installation creates a link between the digital world and the physical world. Walking into the sculpture creates a world of light in combination with field recordings of sounds of the city of Utrecht. It creates a view straight across all the walls of the city.
DATA
The composition of points is created by an artistic interpretation of aerial data from the city of Utrecht that was created by the use of LiDAR technology.
The dataset was based on proximity 1,1 billion points. Created by the library of Actueel Hoogtebestand Nederland.
SOUND
The audio composition is based on field recordings that were collected by cycling and walking true to the city. It switch between recognizably daily city sounds and composted sounds. The contrast between them symbolizes the warm home feeling of Utrecht and the fast modern transformation of the city.
